Resources

Here are some of my favorite community, online and hard copy sources of breastfeeding information.

Community Organizations – for mother-to-mother breastfeeding help and support:

Great websites:

  • KellyMom website – great information on a variety of breastfeeding issues.  Browsing here may answer many of your questions
  • Jack Newman’s page – click on “Online Info” for some helpful videos and handouts
  • Best for Babes – dedicated to exposing common “booby traps” and helping mothers overcome them to reach their own breastfeeding goals.
  • Low Milk Supply.org – webpage of Diana West, Lisa Marasco and Carol Maranta for mothers with low milk supply

Book Recommendations (these make great baby shower gifts for an expecting mom!):

  • So That’s What They’re For! by Janet Tamaro – a good intro to breastfeeding concepts.  Not too heavy.  Great baby shower gift and good for expecting moms
  • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by Diane Weissinger, Diana West, and Teresa Pitman.  La Leche League International’s new version of an old staple.  Don’t be fooled by the old-fashioned-sounding title.  This is an easy-to-read, incredibly complete guide to breastfeeding with up-to-date information based on the latest research.
  • Nursing Mother, Working Mother by Gale Pryor – a must-have for mothers who will be combining breastfeeding and working outside the home.
  • Mothering Multiples by Karen Kerkhoff-Gromada – excellent resource for breastfeeding mothers of twins, triplets or more!
